参道を下ったところに本堂がある全国でも珍しい神社です。
古い歴史を持つ神社の境内にある銀杏の大木には、毎年たくさんの実がなり、この木の形や樹液がにじみ出る様子から、母乳の出がよくなる御利益があると言われています。
平成15年、本殿・四所宮・地主社と附属として13枚の棟札及び妻板が鹿児島県指定有形文化財(建造物)に指定されました。
