約1250年伝承されてきた、国家安泰や五穀豊穣、万民快楽などを祈願する伝統行事、「奇習 鬼追い」が行われる神社です。
毎年正月7日の夜、幻想的にライトアップされた竹林で、鬼神太鼓の奉納演奏が鳴り響く中、境内の無数の御幣を身に纏った鬼が登場します。鬼に打たれた人は、その一年無病息災となり、鬼かぜに吹かれれば心身健全になると言われています。
