スギラビーチの南の中里海水浴場からガジユマルで有名な荒木を結ぶ海岸は、奄美大島を望む荒木海岸国定公園にあり、いろいろな形をしたサンゴ礁や植物の群生を見ることができます。
2キロ余りに遊歩道が続いており、ここから眺める夕日は幻想的で美しいことから「夕日の散歩道」と呼ばれています。
