1914年（大正3年）の桜島の大正噴火の際、高さ3mあった腹五社神社（黒神神社）の鳥居は軽石や火山灰により、鳥居の下部2m分が埋まり、笠木部分の1mを地上に残すのみとなりました。鳥居の斜め後ろには、大噴火を生き残ったアコウの樹が大きく枝を伸ばしています。
