出水麓武家屋敷群の公開武家屋敷の一つ。大河ドラマ「篤姫」のロケ地としても使用されました。竹添家は肥後の国人吉、球磨城主相良氏の一族で、寛永14年（1637年）米ノ津から麓へ屋敷が移り、代々組頭など出水郷の要職を務めた。建物の建築は明治初期を下らないとされています。
駐車場は、出水麓武家屋敷「税所邸」と共用です。
