1962(昭和37)年以来、大小390機を越すロケットの打ち上げを行ているほか、1970(昭和45)年の日本初の人工衛星「おおすみ」をはじめ、30個近くの衛星や探査機をが打ち上げられています。
ロケットや科学衛星、打ち上げ施設設備、科学観測機器などのモデルやパネル、実際に使用した試作・試験品を展示する宇宙科学資料館もあり、JAXAの各種活動を紹介するビデオを視聴できる設備もあります。
