奄美十景の一つで、徳之島の南西部に三角形に突き出した海食崖（波浪の作用によって形成される海岸の急崖）の岬です。岬の突端の芝生の中に、第二次世界大戦末期、海上特攻隊として沖縄へ向かう途中で沈没した戦艦大和を旗艦とする第2艦隊戦没将士の慰霊塔があります。
高さは戦艦大和の司令塔と同じ24mあります。バリアフリーコースもあり、車椅子でも近くで見学できます。
喫茶スペースや戦艦大和に関わる展示スペースを備えた施設もあります。
