桜島山と錦江湾を一望できる展望所です。1914年の大噴火では噴煙が約8,000ｍも上昇し、約1ヶ月にわたり30億トンもの溶岩が流出しました。このときの溶岩流によって桜島は大隅半島と陸続きとなり、沖合500ｍにあった烏島という小島が呑みこまれ、完全に埋没しました。その後の一部を整備してつくられたのが烏島展望所です。
