文政七年に、旅行や海上安全、民福繁栄祈願の為に金刀比羅大権現と名称して奉祀しました。しかし、天保六年九月十五日に現在の場所へ移転奉祀。
その後、昭和十二年九月の暴風により本殿拝殿共に倒潰し、昭和二十年四月三日には日米戦の空襲により社殿が全焼しましたが、昭和25年に島民の寄付により再建されました。
